Food Labeling Standards

Food Labeling Standards Notification [Notification No. 2023-64, dated September 26, 2023]

  1. Purpose: This notification establishes standards for food, livestock products, food additives, equipment, or container/packaging labeling based on Article 4 and 5 of the Food Labeling and Advertising Act, Article 5(3), 5-2, and 6(4) of the Enforcement Decree of the same Act to promote sanitary handling, provide accurate information to consumers, and ensure fair trade, aiming at consumer safety and nutritional labeling of food.
  2. Contents: Food labeling standards are important regulations to clearly convey information about products and protect consumer rights. Therefore, manufacturers or distributors must provide various information about their products. These standards require clear labeling of product origin, ingredients, expiration dates, storage methods, etc. Food labeling standards help consumers make informed purchasing decisions, protect consumer rights, and ensure that consumers have correct information about the products. Compliance with regulations is important for consumer health and safety, contributes to increasing market transparency, and maintaining consumer trust.
  3. Legal Requirements: There are legal obligation labeling requirements that must be displayed on the main label and the information label.

       1) Front Panel (Front Label): Product name, volume or weight, calorie content

       2) Back Panel (Information Label = Back Label): Ingredient declaration, nutritional facts, manufacturing facility name, allergen information, origin labeling, expiration date, storage instructions, etc.
